Fuel cells are all of the rage20/06/05 By: Adam DawesCeramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFU) announced that the Victorian Office of Gas Safety has certified its fuel cell powered micro-CHP unit. CFU’s fuel cell generator is designed to produce 1kW electricity and heat for hot water for a typical home using natural gas as fuel.
“It is a critical point in our business path to commercialise our fuel cell solutions for energy needs,” said new CEO Mr Brendan Dow. Mr Dow comes to CFCL from German manufacturer Ziehl-ebm, with extensive senior level experience in the manufacturing and energy industries as well as international business development, the company said. By law, the Office of Gas Safety must ‘accept the safe design of a gas appliance before it can be legally supplied, sold or installed in Victoria’. CFCL has received approval for its fuel cell energy system, balance of plant and integrated micro-CHP appliance prototype, all of which were designed and built at the factory and office in Noble Park, Victoria. “This is a milestone week for CFCL, we will celebrate the company’s achievements with a formal launch of Australia’s first fuel cell powered generator, and Australia’s first fuel cell powered micro-CHP,” Mr Dow said. CFCL’s first micro-CHP prototype will be shipped to New Zealand later this week for field trial testing for 12 months.
